Meet the New Elementary Principal - Mr. Dan Woodle
April 01, 2013
Hello, my name is Dan Woodle, and I am the new elementary principal! I wanted to introduce myself to the community of O’Neill and give everyone a chance to know a bit about me and how my experiences have led me to my new position as the principal at O’Neill Elementary.
I was raised in many different cities around Minnesota until my family settled in Pipestone, MN when I was in junior high school. While attending Pipestone Area Schools I participated in football, basketball, baseball, concert choir, jazz choir and the Peer Helper Program. After graduation from High School, I attended Southwest Minnesota State University and obtained my bachelors’ degree in Elementary Education.
After earning my degree from Southwest Minnesota State University I moved to Brandon, SD, and began my career with the Brandon Valley School District. I taught both 4th and 5th grade during my 11 years working for the Brandon Valley School District. During my time in the district I was fortunate to participate on many different committees that will assist me in my principal duties at O’Neill Elementary. I worked to organize the district’s staff development, served on the curriculum selection and implementation committees, a participated in a grant program dealing with 21st Century Skills and technology implementation in the classroom. I was also on the South Dakota Department of Education’s, Social Studies Standards committee for writing and revising the state standards.
After 7 years of teaching, I went back to school at the University of Sioux Falls and earned my masters degree in elementary administration, which brings me to where I am today.
In my free time I enjoy many different activities. I have been a baseball coach in my time as an educator working with all age levels from middle school through the Legion teams for BrandonValley. I have also coached basketball for the district. I enjoy running and being active as much as possible. I also really enjoy doing home remodeling and landscaping projects.
I hope this has given everyone a bit of an insight into who I am as an educator and as a person. I look forward to coming to O’Neill, meeting everyone, and becoming a valuable member of the community.
