Boys Earn Runner-Up Honors at Norfolk Catholic Track Meet

Jon Gettert & Nathaniel Jennings in the 800.Last week the O’Neill Eagles Boy’s Team earned runner-up against Norfolk Catholic by only two points. The boy’s team competed against eight other schools to end their regular season.
Walker Liewer won the discus again with a throw of 161’ 10”. Walker also placed 3rd in the shot put with a toss of 48’ 3”. Teammate Jason Hahlbeck placed 3rd in the discus with an effort of 132’ 3”.
Blake Johnston won the 1600-meter run again with a time of 4:41.0. Teammate and brother Grant Johnston placed 2nd in the 3200-meter run with a time of 10:23.1. In the 800-meter run Jon Gettert placed 6th with 2:07.7.
Alex Thramer placed 2nd in the 300 intermediate hurdles with 42.2 and 3rd in the 110 high hurdles with a time of 15.5. Thramer also placed 3rd in the long jump of 19’ 9”. Teammate Wyatt Liewer placed 5th in the 110 high hurdles with 16.3 and 5th in the intermediate hurdles with a time of 44.0.
Corbin Dean placed 3rd in the pole vault with an effort of 12’. Justin Appleby also placed 2nd in the triple jump with 39’ 10”.
The relays earned points for the team. The 4 x 100 with teammates Chance Sholes, Corbin Dean, Trevor Dempster, and Blake Krysl placed 5th. The 4 x 800 composed of Shayne Campbell, Caden Moore, Spencer Davis, and Tyler Beeks placed 5th. The 4 x 400 placed 3rd with Corbin Dean, Ehric Strope, Jon Gettert, and Nathaniel Jennings.
“We were pretty tired from a busy week. Rest and light workouts will get us ready to perform at a high level this upcoming Thursday. I can’t wait to watch the team perform at districts,” said Coach Hilker.
Next Thursday, May 12th, O’Neill will host the B-4 districts. Nine other teams will come and compete to try to earn a district title and make their way to the state meet, May 20th & 21st, at Burke Stadium in Omaha. Field events will start at 11:00 am and running events at 2:00 pm.
