Eagle 7th Grade Boys Win Mid State

The O’Neill 7th grade boys won the 200 through the 1600 and scored in thirteen of the fifteen events on their way to claiming top honors in the Mid State Conference JH meet held Saturday in O’Neill. The Eagles totaled 91 points to out distance runner-up Battle Creek who finished with 78. Boone Central Newman Grove wound up third with 76.
Brady Thompson was a double gold medal winner for O’Neill. He won the 800 (2:28.18) and the 1600 with a personal best time of 5:12.62. The other first place finishes came from Jakeb Larson in the 200 (27.48) and Brady Sidak in the 400 (61.88). Both of those times were personal bests. Larson finished fourth in both the long jump and the 100, while Sidak was third in the long jump and fourth in the high jump.
The Eagles also had strong performances from Angel Lopez, Ty Rainforth, Lance Schmeichel and Drake Ruegge. Lopez was fourth in the 100 hurdles, second in the 200 hurdles, and finished fourth in the 400. Rainforth’s day started with a personal best of 7-6 in the vault, good for fourth place. He also ran sixth in the 1600 (5:51.58). Schmeichel finished fourth in the discus and Ruegge was fourth in the shot (31-6), his best toss to date.
The other O’Neill points came in the 1600 meter relay where Sidak, Rainforth, Fabian Acevedo, and Thompson finished fourth.
The Eagle 8th grade competed well in their division, especially in the throws and hurdles. O’Neill tallied 37 points in a meet that saw a number of excellent marks.
Turner Jussel finished third in the 100 hurdles (17.82) and fourth in the 200 hurdles (29.97).
Mason Walsh finished second in the shot with a personal best throw of 41-8. Christopher Jennings was sixth at 32-11. Jennings also finished second in the discus (113-00) and Peyton Matthews was fourth (107-3.5).
The other individual points for O’Neill came from Walsh and Keegan Moore. Walsh was sixth in both the triple jump (33-0.5) and the 800 (2:25.06). Moore had a personal best in the vault (7-6), to finish in fifth place.
The last points of the day for O’Neill came from the 1600 meter relay team. Walsh, Zane Koehler, Moore, and Jussel finished 5th in a time of 4:14.15.
