Eagles Compete at West Holt Invitational

April 24, 2017

Eagles competed at the West Holt Invite last Thursday.  Lady Eagles placed 5th while the boys won the team title.

In the boy’s division the Eagles won seven individual events and one relay.  Leading the Eagles with two titles were Jason Hahlbeck, Alex Thramer, and Nathaniel Jennings.  Jason threw his personal best in both the discus and shot.  He threw 152’ 6” in the discus, and 47’ 3.5” in the shot to take both events.  Alex Thramer won the 110 high hurdles with 15.79 and the 300 intermediate hurdles with 41.16.  Nathaniel Jennings anchored the 4 x 800 with a split of 2:00 minutes, won the 800 meter run with 2:03.54, placed 3rd in the 400 with 53.24, and help the 4 x 400 place third with 3:41.56.  McCoy Strong earned his first individual championship in the 3200 meter run with a personal best of 10:36.61.

The O’Neill Eagles girl’ s team placed 5th.  Highlights for the Eagles were Mikayla Marvin placing 1st in the pole vault with 10’ 8”, setting a new meet record.  Aurora Gutshall placed 2nd in the 100 hurdles.  Taya Rainforth placed 3rd in 100 hurdles and 300 low hurdles.  Tori Wendell placed 3rd in the triple and long jump, and 2nd in the 100 meter dash.

Hurdles: Taya Rainforth 51.39 3rd, 4 x 100 Weightmans (none scoring event) (Brown, Grenier, Miles, Breiner), 4 x 400:  4:30.12 5th (Birkel, Morrow, Marvin, Thompson), 4 x 800 11:01.58 5th (Morrow, Rainforth, Birkel, Thompson), Pole Vault:  Mikayla Marvin 10’ 8” 1st, Caleigh Miles 9’ 5th, Long Jump:  Tori Wendell 15’ 4.25” 3rd, McKenna Fowler 14’ 11.25” 4th, Girls Triple Jump:  Tori Wendell 32’ 1.75” 3rd, Allison Ludwig 31’ 4.5” 5th, McKenna Fowler 31’ 2.25” 6th, Shot Put:  Emily Morrow 33’ 1” 3rd, Emma Krysl  31’ 4.5” 6th.

“The Eagles just need to keep improving on one or two things every week and we will see more improvements,” coaches commented.

This week the Eagles will be busy.  They first will have ran at the Pierce Freshman/Sophomore Invitational Track Meet, April 25th.  Then will be taking Norfolk Classic Qualifiers down on Thursday, April 27th.  Then ending Saturday, April 29th with Mid-States Conference Meet.
