Mid State Conference Results

Perfect weather allowed two O’Neill records to be broken Saturday at the Mid States Junior High track meet. Blair Gutshall was edged out of 1st place, but was able to break her sister, Aurora’s, record in the 100 hurdles with a time of 16.75. Gutshall was also a member of the record setting 4x400 relay along with Meg Schluns, Tayor Altwine, and Alyssa Eichelberger. Their winning time was 4:23.34.
Gutshall won the high jump, 5’0” and the 100 m, 13.6. Schluns won the long jump with a jump of 15’ 7 ½” just a half an inch short of the school record. Schluns also took 1st place in the 400 with a time of 1:03.71 and placed 3rd in the 100 m, 14.11. Alyssa Eichelberger finished in 2nd in the 200 m with a time of 29.53 and 4th in high jump at 4’6”.
The 4x100 relay team of Yoselyn Valdez, Heather Jimenez, Brianna Sullivan, and Kenna Couch placed 2nd with a time of 59.91.
The seventh grade had many girls score points for the lady eagles. After starting off the season with an injury, Lauren Young bounced back with a win in the long jump, 14’3, placing 3rd in the 400, 1:09.53, 6th in the 100, 14.3, and was a member of the 2nd place 4x100 relay, 57.5. Other relay members were Journi Moran, Chandra Davis, and Kalarisa Munoz. These same girls along with Ally Sedlacek placed 5th in the 4x400 relay, 5:06.97. Davis also placed in the 400 with a personal best time of 1:11.02 good enough for 4th place.
In the field events, Zelie Sorensen placed 4th in high jump, 4’2”, and 5th in pole vault, 6’0”. Teammate Taylor Ross also went 4’2” in high jump to take 5th place. Journi Moran placed 6th in long jump, 12’8 ½”. Sorensen also scored points for the eagles in the 200 hurdles with her best time of the year, 34.53. Hurdler, Kiersten Welke, finished in 6th in the 100 hurdles, 19.93.
