The O’Neill Boys Track and Field team turned in a strong week of competition, splitting up to compete at the Battle Creek Invitational and the Broken Bow Invitational, with solid performances across the board.

At the Battle Creek Invite, the Eagles put together an impressive team showing, finishing 3rd overall against a competitive field. O’Neill was led by standout efforts on the track, particularly in the 400 meters where Ryker Sudbeck captured 1st place with a time of 51.79, while Colten Shoemaker added a 2nd-place finish in 53.13.

In the 200 meters, Porter Mathews placed 5th in 23.09, followed closely by Shoemaker in 24.09. The distance crew also delivered strong results, as Alonso Hernandez finished 2nd in the 1600 meters with a time of 4:58.88, and Tomas Arciniega placed 4th in the 3200 meters at 11:26.64.

The hurdles group added key points, with Ian Yates taking 3rd in the 110 high hurdles in 16.27 and Drake Brandt finishing 5th in 17.26. Maguire Heiss placed 5th in the 300 intermediate hurdles with a time of 46.32.

Relay teams continued to be a strength for the Eagles. The 4x800 relay team of Nate Brown, Alonso Hernandez, Paul Fonseca, and Angel Sanchez claimed 1st place in 9:12.04. The 4x100 relay team of Braxen Eichelberger, Ryan Owen, Maguire Heiss, and Daine Brandt placed 4th in 46.43, while the 4x400 team of Angel Sanchez, Nate Brown, Paul Fonseca, and Jordani Perez also took 4th in 3:53.02.

In the field events, Ryker Sudbeck won the long jump with a leap of 22’4”, while Porter Mathews placed 3rd at 21’1”. Grady Welke cleared 11’6” to finish 3rd in the pole vault, and Shoemaker added a 6th-place finish in the high jump at 5’8”. Heiss also contributed with a 4th-place finish in the triple jump at 38’9”.

At the Broken Bow Invitational, O’Neill placed 6th as a team with 44 points while continuing to show improvement and depth. Sudbeck once again led the way, winning the 400 meters in 51.08. Mathews added a 6th-place finish in the 200 meters with a time of 23.98.

The Eagles’ relay teams continued their strong performances. The 4x100 relay team of Colten Shoemaker, Ryker Sudbeck, Ryan Owen, and Porter Mathews placed 3rd in 44.55. The 4x400 relay team of Paul Fonseca, Porter Mathews, Colten Shoemaker, and Sudbeck also finished 3rd with a time of 3:34.85. In the 4x800 relay, the team of Fonseca, Nate Brown, Alonso Hernandez, and Angel Sanchez took 3rd in 8:54.13.

With strong finishes at both meets, the Eagles continue to build momentum as the season progresses. Their combination of experienced leaders and emerging contributors positions O’Neill well for the upcoming stretch of competition.
