On Saturday, March 28th, eight O’Neill High School band members traveled to Grand Island Northwest High School to rehearse and perform in the 20th annual Nebraska Class B All-State Bands.
The Symphonic Honor Band was directed by Phil Goddard, retired band director from Milford. Performing in the Symphonic Band was Jailyn Romesser, Celia Mott, Kaitlyn Hinrichs, Wade Krysl and Sophie Steele.
The Wind Ensemble was under the direction of Dr. Andrew Feyes, director of bands at Doane University. Performing in that group were: Riley Roessler, Hailey Romesser and Logan Bradshaw.
Suhani Chaudhari and Alex Otte also qualified for the Symphonic Band band but was unable to attend.
Nebraska composer Larry MacTaggert was commissioned to write “On The Platte”, which the Wind Ensemble premiered at the concert. The Symphonic Band also performed one of Mr MacTaggert’s works entitled “Sunset On The McConaughy”l. He was in attendance all afternoon to offer insight into his pieces as well as attend the final concert.
