Eagle Boys Win Team Title at Ainsworth Relays

Last Friday, March 27th, the O’Neill Boys competed at the Ainsworth Relays. Six other teams competed at the invite. The O’Neill Boy’s Track Team was able to beat out the home team, Ainsworth, by 4 points. The Eagles were able to score 116 points as a team. In the field events during the relay meet the top three competitors for each team height or distance is totaled and the highest value wins the event.
In jumps, Eagles were able to get three first place finishes, and a second. In the pole vault the Eagles were made up by Jon Marvin, Corbin Dean, and Caden Moore, their cumulative pole vault was 28 feet, which was good enough for 1st place. The long jump lead by Jacob Emme, Bailey Thompson, and Jack Gutshall won the event with jumps of 18’ 1”, 17’2”, and17’ 1”. Then in the triple jump Emme, Thompson, and Gutshall placed first in as well. The high jump lead by Justin Appleby and Alex Thramer, and Dylan Belik placed 2nd with jumps of 5’6”, 5’4”, and 4’ 10”.
In the throwing events the Eagles were able to place 2nd as a team in both events. The discus was lead by junior Walker Liewer who threw the distance of 139’ 7”, then with Jason Hahlbeck of 105’ 7”, and Shayne Campbell with a throw of 104’ 5”. In the shot put Chance Sholes threw 44’ 9”, Walker Liewer 40’ 6”, and Jason Hahlbeck tossed 35’ 3”.
The running relays, O’Neill placed 2nd and 4th in the distance medley. Earning points for the team in the 2nd place team was Blake Johnston, Grant Johnston, Tyson Hostert, and Jake Young. The same team placed 2nd in the 4 x 800 meter relay. Team Two of the 4 x 800 compromised of Nathaniel Jennings, Ehric Strope, Tyler Beeks, and Zeb O’Bryan placed 3rd. The 4 x 100 made up of Dylan Belik, Jacob Emme, Chance Sholes, and Kedron Koehler placed 3rd. In the 4 x 200 Team A: Chance Sholes, Dylan Belik, Jacob Emme, and Bailey Thompson placed 3rd. Team B made up of Jack Gutshall, Wyatt Liewer, Justin Appleby, and Jose Ponce placed 6th. Then in the 1600 medley sprint with Jose Ponce, Blake Krysl, Corbin Dean, and Jon Gettert placed 3rd. The 4 x 400 placed 2nd with a time of 3:45, running in the relay was Tyson Hostert, Alex Thramer, Ehric Strope, and Kedron Koehler.
The O’Neill Eagles also won the 3 x 64 meter shuttle hurdle relay and 3 x 195 meter shuttle hurdle relay. Running the 3 x 64 shuttle was Alex Thramer, Wyatt Liewer, and Kedron Koehler. Then the 3 x 195’s were Alex Thramer, Parker Belgium, and Kedron Koehler competed.
Overall in the relay meet Eagles were able to earn 5 firsts, 6 seconds, 5 thirds, 1 fourth, 1 fifth, and 3 6th place finishes.
“Great to get so many athletes competing. I was excited to see where they are and what we need to work on. We had a good start. Our goal is to get better every week,” said Coach Hilker.
