Boys Golf Team Heading to State

May 16, 2017

The boys golf team finished their regular season at the B-2 District golf meet at Wayne Country club on Tuesday.  The day started off very windy and warm.  The boys knew that it was going to be a long grueling day on the course with many ups and downs.  The boys got off to a great start with the team getting three birdies in the first four holes as a team.  After that the team settled in to a long day of golf and worked hard to keep their composure.  When the golfers made the turn at the clubhouse O'Neill was tied with Columbus Lakeview for first as a team.  The boys put them selves in a spot right where they wanted to be and now they had to just finish on the back nine.  There were many difficult holes out there but the boys battled through and kept their composer and did their best to battle threw the adversity.  When all the scores were tabulated O'Neill was 5 strokes behind Lakeview in the team hunt to finish second and punched their ticket to the state Class B golf tournament shooting a 345.  Leading the Eagles was Josh Cuddy shooting a 80 and placing 3rd.  Jacob Todd carded an 84 and place 7th while Cole Gaughenbaugh was one stroke back shooting a 85 and finishing 9th.  Bryce Heiser shot a 96 and Jared Hammerlun finished out the scoring for the Eagles with a 97.

The Eagles will travel to Lincoln on Tuesday and Wednesday to take part in the Class B State golf tournament that will be held at Highlands Golf course.  The Eagles are very excited to extend their season and put their golf game up against the best in the state and see what happens after two days of golf.
