'Choosing the Best' Health Curriculum
June 08, 2022
A public forum was held on Monday, June 6th to give parents and the public the opportunity to examine and ask questions concerning a proposed new health curriculum, Choosing the Best. Those attending had the opportunity to look at the old curriculum as well as the new. They were able to log onto the actual videos and workbooks that would be used by students. Mandy Chavez, from Beginnings Pregnancy Resource Center, was on hand to present the research on the curriculum and answer any questions that the parents had about the curriculum. Staff from Beginnings has volunteered to teach the 6 – 8 lessons involved if we choose to purchase the materials.
The administration had proposed that we pilot the new curriculum in our 9th grade Health classes with the possibility of purchasing it for younger grades in the future. Based on feedback from parents in attendance, they felt that piloting the curriculum with the 9th graders during the first semester of the 2022-23 year and possibly adding it to grades 6-8 second semester was the best idea. The new curriculum is called Choosing the Best, and links to examine each grade level’s material are included below. The O’Neill School Board will take action on adopting this curriculum at their regular June board meeting to be held on Monday, June 20th.
