Coach Kallhoff Earns 200th Career Win

January 11, 2023

Courtesy of KBRX - O’Neill Alum and Eagles basketball coach Seth Kallhoff started off his new year by earning his 200th career win against Winnebago on Thursday, January 5th!

Kallhoff started his basketball coaching career at Pope John in Elgin as he coached the girls’ basketball team. While at Pope John in the 2008-09 season he led the Crusaders to a 20-5 record!

After success at Pope John, Kallhoff continued his coaching career at O’Neill. When Kallhoff first arrived at O’Neill he started as an assistant boys’ basketball coach for Nick Hostert. He spent the next two seasons learning from Hostert before taking over as head coach for the 2011-12 season. In his first season as head coach, Kallhoff finished 14-9.  In his second season at O’Neill, Kallhoff earned his second career 20-win season as the Eagles finished 20-6. During his coaching career at Pope John and O’Neill, Kallhoff has achieved six 20-win seasons and 2 state tournament appearances in his 12 seasons as a head coach.

During his career, Kallhoff has averaged 16 wins per season with a career win percentage of 52%! With a recent win against Boone Central, Kallhoff has moved his total record to 201-104. Kallhoff has only experienced 3 losing seasons in his 11-year career at O’Neill in one of the toughest conferences and classes in Nebraska high school basketball. Also, during his career, Kallhoff has coached the programs second all-time scorer in Justin Appleby and currently coaches Landon Classen the programs third all-time scorer.

O’Neill Athletic Director Nick Hostert had this to say about Kallhoff’s career accomplishment, “Congrats to Coach Kallhoff on his 200-win milestone.  Many of these wins came against a very competitive C-1 schedule.  Coach K has dedicated a lot of time to the O’Neill basketball program and the OHS athletic programs in general.  You can count on him to bring energy every day to his classes, practice, and games.  He is committed to excellence, and we are proud to have this outstanding O’Neill alum leading our basketball program.”

KBRX also spoke with Coach Kallhoff’s wife Rachael to share their family’s excitement, “Congratulations on this incredible achievement and milestone Seth.  Your hard work, dedication, and love for the game has paid off. Your entire family is so proud of you!”

Coach Kallhoff and the O’Neill Eagles are currently 5-3 and are on a 4-game winning streak. The Eagles next game will be on the road against a talented Ainsworth team on Thursday, January 12th!

KBRX would also like to extend their congratulations to Coach Kallhoff and wish the Eagles good luck the rest of the season!
